Why aren’t you biking?

This past weekend was a long extended weekend.   Did you get any cycling in?   I know that Tara and Robert got some good riding in.  They road in the Pedlar’s Jamboree!  A ride that included a 30 mile trip down the Katy Trail from Columbia to Boonville, an overnight camping excursion, entertainment by HERE COME THE MUMMIES, and  a 30 mile trip back the next day.   I think the only question we have is…   WHY WEREN’T THE REST OF US INVITED TARA?!  Seems kinda selfish to want to keep a weekend ride like that to yourself.  (pics below)

An update on my face!   No surgery will be required.   I met with a second surgeon yesterday to get another opinion.  After meeting with him, then again with my primary care physician, we’ve decide to elect not to have the reconstructive surgery and let the bones heal as they are.  Too many risks involved with the facial surgery for minimal gains.  I’m not that disfigured, and I’ve got good looks to spare.

Don’t forget to checkout our upcoming rides here!  http://breakfastbikebeer.com/rides/

Of note, Scott “Timber!” Timmie is participating in the Dirty Kanza 200 this upcoming weekend.   Good Luck man!   Ride hard. Ride Fast, and Ride Dirty!  We send you our best.

The Next BBBR Ride is Saturday, June 8th, starting at Browne’s Irish Market for an Irish Breakfast.  I’m not cleared to bike outside yet, so I need someone to lead and/or plan a route.  Let me know if you can fill in for me.  I’m still planning to meet you all for Breakfast and Beer afterwards.  I’ll also be available for Sag should anybody need it.   Don’t forget about the Thursday night Velo garage rides either.  They’re always fun.  Check em out!

Evening Ride at Velo Garage

Warmer than expected for an early May evening ride, but really, not too bad either.   It’d been a week and a half since I last road (the century) and it’s amazing how quickly your cardio goes to hell.  I was huffing and puffing at first.  Maybe it’s the beer I quaffed right before we took off, there was definitely some self reflection during the ride.

“What the hell!…  This hill should be easy!”

By the end of the ride though, things started to feel normal again and I was starting to make some good up hill pushes.   I’m looking forward to Saturday’s BBBR.   I’m finally getting over the “I hate my bike” lull after riding that first century, and am ready to start getting after it again.

Hope to see you there!

On another note,  I’ve pulled the trigger and made the switch from MapMyRide to Strava.  Primarily because it has better integration with the software I’m using to run this website.  I can post Rides and Routes easily as part of my posts and events.  Consider checking the app out.   It’s not bad.

May Ride Coming Up!

The weather couldn’t have been much nicer than this past weekend.  I know that Jeff, Joe, and Craig got out for a nice 19 mile ride.  I hope you were able to get out too!

Just a reminder that this upcoming weekend is our Monthly BBBR Ride.   We’ll be starting and finishing down town.   Meet up at 8:30 at Spokes Cafe with a planned departure time of 9:00 am.   Hope you can make it.

Details about this and other upcoming rides can be found here.  Looking forward to seeing you all this weekend!

Lone Star Lovin!

A lot of good cycling happened this past week.   Thursday Night there was the Velo Garage Ride.  Friday Night,  KC Critical Mass, and then Sunday, Timber, Derek Nelson, and I road in the Lone Star Century.  The wind was pretty brutal, though not as bad as last years according to Timber, but still rough enough that several choice words and foul sentiments were unleashed upon the State of Kansas.  We also met a new rider, Jeff who joined in with our line around mile 65 and finished the ride with us.  100 Miles ridden in a day!  Into the wind for a lot of it, but it’s done!  Derek, sadly, started cramping around mile 50, and smartly so, made the choice to turn off and take the 68 mile route.  Around mile 80, I was mentally congratulating him for a game well played.  He got back in time for Beer and Food.  They were all out, by the time we got there.

As I said to a few, We didn’t get First, but we also didn’t get Last.

2nd, 3rd, and 4th.

From Last.

To qualify that though, a lot of people who registered for the full 100 called it and didn’t make the turn.  The wind was that brutal.  Only 1 other rider made the turn onto the 100 mile route after Scott and I did, and there were several behind us at the SAG stop right at the turn.

Be sure to Check Out all the upcoming Rides and Join team Bad Decisions for some fun.

April 29th 2018: Timber, Jared, and Jeff Coe complete the Lone Star Century.

The Site is Live

Welcome to the all new Breakfast Bike Beer Website.  Home of Team Bad Decisions.   I’ve decided to create a permanent online home for us to keep track of what rides we’re planning on riding, and other details that are pertinent to the group.   I hope you enjoy it and make use of it in the future.

Features:

Rides:  This page contains a calendar with all of the upcoming ride events that we are planning on.  If you know of an event and want to add to the list, send me an email with the details.

Ragbrai:  This page contains details as we start planning out our yearly trip to IOWA for ragbrai.  This section is still a work in progress, but expect more details soon.

Breakfast Bike Beer Ride:  A page with details about our monthly organized rides.  Most of this is duplicate details that’ll also be available in the Rides page.

Planned Future Features

Image Gallery:  I want us to be able to upload and keep Images and videos taken during our ride.   A good way to look back at what we’ve done as a group.

Rider Tracking:  I’d love to be able to create profiles for each of our team members and be able to track the total mileage everybody’s ridden as part of the group.

Resources:  Provide good links and details to resources in and round Kansas City that are cycling related.  Looking for a good Local Bike Mechanic?  This will be a good place for you..

Team Profiles:  Create profile pages for each of our team members.  Tell the world about you!

Come back often and see what’s new!
